Sato Churyo is one the greatest artist of Miyagi, as well as to be one of the most important sculptor of postwar Japan. He was born in 1912 in Miyagi, passed away in 30th March 2011 in atelier in Tokyo. This exhibition has both meaning as his 100th anniversary and memorial.
Sato consistently pursued representational sculpture, especially about expression of human figure. His masterpieces, most of which had been donated to The Miyagi Museum of Art, will be shown with his various drawings.
He was also interested in the problem about relationships of society and art, society and artist. The works for illustrated child’s books and textbooks of fine art will tell us his view of the part of artist.
