Guri and Gura, a story of two twin field mice created by sisters Rieko Nakagawa and Yuriko Yamawaki (Omura), made its debut in 1963. Since then, the series has enjoyed wide readership from one generation to the next due to its charming illustrations and captivating story, selling 25 million books in total.

The original illustrations from the series are part of a collection of originals from children’s picture books within the Miyagi Museum of Art collection.

This exhibition is the last stop of the “Guri and Gura – 50th Anniversary” tour that began in 2014 and has allowed over 300,000 visitors nationwide to rediscover the remarkable work from the series. The extensive collection of works to be exhibited includes all the original illustrations from the Guri and Gura books as well as other works related to the series.

Visitors will have the opportunity to fully experience the world of Guri and Gura by viewing the creator pair’s early work such as “No-No Nursery School,” getting a preview of foreign editions of the books, and reading different printed editions from the Guri and Gura series.
