For the very first time, we are able to present artworks related to the Imperial Family in Sendai.

In 1876 and 1881, Emperor Meiji (1852-1912) traveled from Tokyo to the Tohoku region for extensive tours of the region. These travels brought the Imperial Family and the people of Tohoku closer to one another and provided them with the opportunity to learn about each other.

Subsequent visits by successive Emperors and members of the Imperial Family, as well as a deep connection with the Prince of Chichibu (1902-53), illustrate the many ties between the Imperial Family and Tohoku. These ties can also be found in the collection of the Museum of the Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shozokan, managed by the Imperial Household Agency.

This exhibition focuses on artists and artworks associated with the various prefecture of Tohoku, including crafts made with traditional techniques from each region, and introduces artworks that convey the ties between the Imperial Family and different parts of Tohoku. In addition, there are also folding screens originally displayed at the Imperial Palace in Kyoto during the Edo period (1603–1868), interior decorations for palaces and other buildings from the Meiji era (1868–1912), masterpieces commissioned for imperial ceremonies, and representative works by various artists. We hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy the artworks that come in diverse forms of beauty and have been passed down by the Imperial Family.

Ticket 

Adults 300 yen (240 yen in advance per person for groups of 20 or more)
University Students 150 yen (120 yen in advance per person for groups of 20 or more)
(Elementary school, junior high school, and high school students can enter free.)

• The ticket will also grant access to the Permanent Exhibition (1F exhibition room of the main building) and the Churyo Sato Gallery.
• The ticket for EN ROUTE VERS L’IMPRESSIONNISME Peintures françaises du musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims (2F exhibition room of the main building) will also grant access to this exhibition.
